Un temps impressionniste puis pr\u00e9curseur du postimpressionnisme et du cubisme, Il prend cette place incontournable d\u00e8s 1895, lors de l&rsquo;exposition que lui consacre le galeriste Ambroise Vollard. Selon ce dernier (1866-1939), le portrait figurant ci-dessus a \u00e9t\u00e9 peint par C\u00e9zanne dans son atelier, pr\u00e8s du cimeti\u00e8re Montmartre, fut termin\u00e9 apr\u00e8s 115 s\u00e9ances de pose matinales. Il t\u00e9moigne des relations de confiance nou\u00e9es au fil des s\u00e9ances entre le peintre et son marchand qui, en 1895, prend en main le destin de C\u00e9zanne sur le march\u00e9 de l\u2019art. En effet, \u00e0 55 ans, le peintre aixois \u00e9tait jusque-l\u00e0 rest\u00e9 en marge du march\u00e9 de l&rsquo;art parisien alors que de jeunes artistes voyaient d\u00e9j\u00e0 en lui un ma\u00eetre ouvrant des voies nouvelles. Les natures mortes, les paysages (dont ses montagne Sainte-Victoire) et les peintures de baigneuses de C\u00e9zanne devaient ouvrir la voie \u00e0 des g\u00e9n\u00e9rations d&rsquo;artistes pour enfreindre les r\u00e8gles \u00e9ternelles de la peinture, de sorte que cela marquera d\u00e9finitivement l&rsquo;histoire de la peinture comme un tournant remarquable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">C\u00e9zanne ne s\u2019int\u00e9resse pas \u00e0 la surface des choses mais \u00e0 leur structure&nbsp;: son parti pris des choses<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Une ample r\u00e9trospective du travail de C\u00e9zanne est ensuite organis\u00e9e au Salon d&rsquo;automne de 1907, o\u00f9 l&rsquo;on peut voir 56 de ses toiles. Toute la jeune g\u00e9n\u00e9ration d\u00e9clare son admiration pour C\u00e9zanne et affirme le r\u00f4le jou\u00e9 par son \u0153uvre dans le lancement d&rsquo;un nouvel ordre pictural. C\u2019est sa p\u00e9riode qu\u2019il appelait volontiers \u00ab&nbsp;couillarde&nbsp;\u00bb et que les historiens d\u2019art nomment plus classiquement sa p\u00e9riode romantique ou sa phase baroque. Elle sera en particulier marqu\u00e9e par la permanence, parmi ses th\u00e8mes de natures mortes, de ses peintures de pommes. &nbsp;Un jour, enfant, Paul C\u00e9zanne d\u00e9fend dans la cour de r\u00e9cr\u00e9ation le jeune \u00c9mile Zola. Le lendemain, pour le remercier de son action, Zola lui offre un panier de pommes. Les pommes seront d\u00e8s lors un des motifs caract\u00e9ristiques du peintre dans ses natures mortes pendant toute sa carri\u00e8re. Des ann\u00e9es plus tard, C\u00e9zanne d\u00e9clarait \u00e0 Joachim Gasquet&nbsp;:&nbsp;\u00ab&nbsp;Tiens&nbsp;! Par sa volont\u00e9 de faire&nbsp;\u00ab&nbsp;du&nbsp;Poussin&nbsp;sur nature&nbsp;\u00bb, il appara\u00eet paradoxalement comme un continuateur du classicisme fran\u00e7ais mais aussi un innovateur radical par l&rsquo;utilisation de la g\u00e9om\u00e9trie dans les portraits, natures mortes et les nombreux paysages qu&rsquo;il peint, d&rsquo;\u00cele-de-France&nbsp;et de&nbsp;Provence, particuli\u00e8rement de la campagne d&rsquo;Aix-en-Provence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>C\u00e9zanne peindra \u00e9galement 45 portraits de sa femme Hortense pendant sa vie. Sur le chemin du retour vers l\u2019atelier, il n\u2019est pas rare que les gamins du coin lui lance quelques cailloux\u2026Il se recueille syst\u00e9matiquement sous le triptyque <em>le buisson ardent <\/em>de Nicolas Froment (1476), chef-d\u2019\u0153uvre absolu situ\u00e9 dans la cath\u00e9drale Saint-Sauveur, dans lequel il trouve qu\u2019il ressemble fort \u00e0 Moise\u2026Souvent, il se rendait aux carri\u00e8res de Bibemus, prenant ce site naturel exploit\u00e9 comme th\u00e8me de ses toiles.
